The Surveying Technologies Department at the Samawah Technical Institute, part of the Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, held a training course within its Continuing Education Unit entitled “Using GIS & RS Technologies in Disaster Management and Risk Reduction.”
The course highlighted the pivotal role of surveying technologies in supporting environmental disaster management and early warning systems. This was achieved through the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing in risk analysis, supporting engineering and administrative decisions, and enhancing national capabilities in addressing various environmental challenges.
The course also included practical projects involving the preparation of hazard maps for selected areas and the analysis of potential response scenarios. This aligns with the university’s commitment to promoting sustainable technologies and protecting lives and property.
