The Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University organized a specialized training course titled “Metal Fatigue Testing: Types, Importance, and Procedures.” The course was conducted by the Department of Drilling and Oil & Gas Production Technologies at the Technical Institute of Samawah, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit, with the participation of a number of the institute’s staff and students.
The course was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Ahmed Abdul Mohsen Abdul Sahib. It covered the types of mechanical tests for metals, including fatigue testing. The course reviewed how to perform different types of mechanical tests, the equipment used, and the mechanical properties targeted by each test.
It then focused specifically on fatigue testing, where participants were introduced to the concept of metal fatigue and its mechanism. The course also explained how to conduct fatigue testing, starting from sample preparation and the equipment used, through the testing procedures, up to plotting the stress–number of cycles curve, determining the fatigue limit of metals, and deriving the fatigue equation.
The course concluded with an evaluation exam for participants to measure how much they benefited from the scientific topics presented.
