📋 About the Department
The Petroleum and Gas Refining Department at Al-Samawa Technical Institute is a technical department aimed at preparing specialized cadres in oil and gas processing and refining operations, with a focus on practical aspects of operating refinery units, production monitoring, and quality inspection, to qualify students for work in refineries and oil & energy companies.
The department aligns with the requirements of the modern refining industry by applying the latest technologies in separation and analysis processes, and partnering with the petroleum sector to provide outstanding practical training for students.
🎯 Vision, Mission & Objectives
Petroleum refining is one of the most important specializations of this era. Students study in depth the methods of refining crude oil and gas, extracting various derivatives, starting from receiving crude oil and transporting it from extraction companies, through the process of separating impurities, salts, and water, treating undesirable products and disposal methods, designing various treatment units, and finally specialized refineries producing various petroleum derivatives such as all types of fuel, preparing and producing raw materials for polymer production for all uses, and primary petrochemicals that serve as raw materials in many other industries: solvents, dyes, plastics, textiles, and many other petroleum products we rely on in our daily lives.
Qualify and prepare mid-level cadres to work in the field of oil and gas isolation, crude oil refining, natural gas treatment, and all related operations of controlling operating conditions and laboratory tests according to standard specifications, as well as supplying the training and development program in the oil sector with competent and efficient trainers. In addition to holding development courses for employees of oil companies.
The Petroleum and Gas Refining Department aims to:
• Prepare qualified technicians to operate refining units and natural gas processing.
• Develop quality control skills on petroleum products and laboratory tests.
• Meet the needs of the oil and gas sector for well-trained mid-level cadres.
• Enhance innovation in extraction processes, heat treatments, and automatic control.
• Contribute to the development of the national oil industry through continuous training and partnership with the private sector.
- Graduate mid-level technical cadres holding a technical diploma in Operation, Control, and Refining, qualified to work in oil refinery units, gas manufacturing units, and gas filling plants after two calendar years of study and training for preparatory school graduates – scientific branch specialized in oil refining. They are entrusted with many job tasks in this sector, including: operating units in refineries, operational control of each unit, and quality control of petroleum products.
- Work in the measurement, transport, and filling department for ownership transfer measurements, as well as in petroleum derivatives filling stations.
- Operation of natural gas units, sulfur extraction, storage of liquefied gas, liquefied gas filling plants.
- Laboratory tests for gas and laboratories in various oil sites that require laboratory tests for their products.
