📋 About the Department
The Nursing Department at Al-Samawa Technical Institute is an applied health department aimed at preparing qualified nursing staff capable of providing health care to patients in various conditions. The department focuses on teaching nursing fundamentals, first aid, patient care, and emergency response skills, with practical training in hospitals and health centers to prepare students to work within medical teams in the health sector.
Established in 1994, the department continuously develops its academic programs to keep pace with advancements in nursing sciences and health technologies, while emphasizing human values and ethics among nurses.
🎯 Vision, Mission & Objectives
The Nursing Department was established in 1994. The teaching staff and the deanery strive to provide all elements of progress in the field of nursing education to keep pace with scientific and technological advances in medicine, while encouraging students to reach an advanced level to shoulder their responsibilities in scientific research and study across various nursing specialties. Evening studies were introduced in the department in the academic year (2019-2020).
To prepare a nursing staff educated in the arts and skills of nursing to provide comprehensive nursing services for prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation, in line with the increasing need of society for medical care. This is achieved through clear and distinguished scientific and technical programs to improve the health of individuals, families, and the community.
- Prepare highly competent male and female nurses capable of meeting the demands of the health labor market.
- Develop critical thinking and sound nursing decision-making skills in various situations.
- Enhance professional ethics and human behavior among students toward patients and society.
- Support scientific research in the nursing field and promote a culture of continuous education.
- Strengthen cooperation with local and regional health institutions to improve quality of care.
- Patient admission and nursing documentation of all necessary nursing procedures in the patient’s file.
- Assisting the physician during patient examination.
- Distributing and administering medications prescribed by the physician.
- Psychologically and physically preparing the patient before surgery and post-operative care (including bathing care).
- Assisting the physician in administering and withdrawing fluids and blood transfusion.
- Assisting the patient who is unable to eat when incapable of doing so.
- Washing and sterilizing instruments used for patient care.
- Providing nursing care in dialysis units, cardiac resuscitation, respiratory resuscitation, and cardiac and vascular surgery units.
- Health education for the patient and family.
- Participating in vaccination campaigns in health centers.
- Implementing health education and health programs.
- Providing health services and mother-child care in health centers.
- Conducting home visits to provide services for mother and child and immunization against diseases.
- Participating in school visits to identify procedures followed in providing health services.
🔬 Department Laboratories
Objective: Introduce students to microorganisms and their relationship to health and disease.
Practical content: Study of bacteria, fungi, and viruses using microscopes, sterilization tests, and sample culturing.
Benefit: Develops students’ skills in laboratory diagnosis and understanding of infectious diseases.
Objective: Train students on basic nursing and healthcare skills.
Practical content: Measuring vital signs, administering injections, wound care, first aid application, and CPR.
Benefit: Prepares students to provide primary and emergency care in hospitals and health centers.
Objective: Teach students the structure and functions of the human body systems.
Practical content: Study of anatomical models, experiments on heart function, respiration, and nervous system.
Benefit: Connects anatomical structure to vital functions, enhancing understanding of diagnosis and treatment.
Objective: Train students on fundamentals of medical and analytical chemistry.
Practical content: Solution preparation, chemical tests on blood and urine, study of biochemical reactions.
