It is part of the Middle Euphrates Technical University. It was founded in 1989 and is located in the northern part of the entrance to Samawah. It currently comprises nine academic departments:
Medical Departments (Nursing Technology Department, Community Health Technology Department, Medical Laboratories Department, and Kidney Dialysis Department)
Technological Departments (Mechanical Technology Department, Electrical Technology Department, Surveying Technology Department, Construction and Building Department, Oil and Gas Refining Department, Information Technology Department, and Oil Extraction and Well Drilling Department)
Administrative Departments (Accounting Technology Department, Legal Administration Department)
The institute has witnessed significant expansion at all levels, especially in the years following the fall of the former regime. Originally built with two buildings, it now comprises 15 buildings, including administrative buildings, science department buildings, and laboratory buildings. It is also currently undergoing extensive construction work to prepare for the opening of new science departments that meet the needs of the Muthanna Governorate community. The institute currently employs (62) faculty members, in addition to (167) technicians and (86) administrators.
The institute has strived to meet the needs of the community through two methods:
First: Providing graduates and intermediate cadres to meet its aspirations.
Second: Conducting courses, consultations, and construction tests to serve the people of the governorate. It continues to work to achieve its desired goal of creating a high-quality educational system that meets the needs of the local labor market.
Vision:
For the institute to occupy a leading position nationally, regionally, and internationally by deepening the concepts of technical education in particular, and higher education in general, among young people and society. This will create an informed base for this path of higher education, and for those who wish to acquire the best skills and knowledge in technological and administrative specializations, keep pace with modern scientific developments in the technical education program, and direct and employ scientific research to serve the community and various projects.
Mission:
To graduate qualified technical personnel in all specialties to keep pace with the labor market and support the process of technological development through the development of theoretical and practical curricula and the use of the latest teaching methods.
