Head of Department / M.M. Idris Hammoudi

Assistant department: Mohammed Qasim

Vision:

Oil refining is one of the most important specializations in this era, where students study in depth the methods of refining oil and gas raw materials and extracting various derivatives, starting from receiving the raw materials and transporting them from the extracting companies, through the process of separating impurities, salts and water, treating those unwanted products and methods of disposing of them, designing various processing units, and ending with specialized refineries and producing various petroleum derivatives such as fuel of all kinds, preparing and producing raw materials for producing polymers with all their uses and primary petrochemicals that enter as raw materials in many other industries, solvents, dyes, plastics, textiles and many other petroleum products that we depend on in our daily lives.

Mission:

Qualifying and preparing intermediate cadres to work in the field of oil and gas isolation, crude oil refining, natural gas processing and what crude oil and its derivatives require in terms of controlling operational conditions, laboratory tests within standard specifications, as well as supporting the training and development program in the oil sector with capable and competent trainers. In addition to holding development courses to develop members of oil companies.

Description of the graduate’s job:

Graduation of intermediate technical cadres holding a technical diploma in operation, control and refining, qualified to work in oil refinery units, gas manufacturing units and gas filling plants after studying and training for two calendar years for graduates of the preparatory stage – scientific branch. Specialists in oil refining, are assigned many job tasks in this sector, including:
-Operational units in refineries. Operational control of each unit and quality control of petroleum products.

-Works in the measurement, transportation and filling department for ownership transfer measurements as well as in petroleum derivatives filling stations
-Natural gas unit operation
-Sulfur extraction
-Liquid gas storage
-Liquid gas filling plants
-Laboratory gas tests
-Laboratories located in various oil sites that require laboratory tests for their products

Curriculum content:

Students of the oil and gas refining major study a wide range of curricula and courses, which focus on all theoretical, scientific, academic, applied and industrial details, including:
-Oil properties.
-Control processes.
-Heat transfer.
-Operating processes.
-Gas technology.
-Oil refining,
-Fluids.
And supporting materials in the specializations of mechanical engineering sciences, mathematics, Arabic and English languages

Department laboratories

Accordion content

The laboratory is primarily concerned with determining the properties of crude oil and petroleum derivatives according to international standard specifications and oil refining, where it is possible to conduct a somewhat comprehensive evaluation and identify the most important specifications of crude oil and petroleum products, in addition to studying the properties of gaseous and liquid fuel combustion, as well as refining crude oil using distillation devices under normal and vacuum pressure.
